Visit to the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research

More Training ExperiencesTo facilitate our primary mission as members of AFIRM – to develop and expedite the delivery of regenerative medicine therapies for severely wounded servicemen and women, the U.S. Army Institute of Surgical Research (ISR) hosted a visit from eight AFIRM fellows of four different WFPC institutions on January 26th - 28th. During this three-day visit, fellows were introduced to basic research, clinical research, and patient care and rehabilitations through both presentations and tours to ISR labs and the Brook Army Medical Center (BAMC).

Highlights

Brooke Army Medical Center: Burn Center located in the BAMC hospital -only burn center within the U.S. Department of Defense to provide comprehensive, state-of-the- art care and technology to burn patients

Center for the Intrepid: A four-story, 60,000-square-foot center equipped with rehabilitation equipments ranging from indoor running track, pool, climbing wall, to a computer assisted rehabilitation environment, which is one of nine in the world, and the only one in the United States. Here great care is taken for Warriors that have sustained amputation, burn, or serve functional loss in the extremities.

Institute for Surgical Research: Toured research labs and vivarium.
